Celebrating the 20th Annual Puttin' on the Grits!

Puttin’ on the Grits is a beloved annual breakfast event and community fundraiser benefiting the Community Clinic of High Point (CCHP). Established in 2006, the event was designed to raise awareness and support for the Clinic’s mission of providing quality acute care and chronic disease management to eligible uninsured adults, ages 18–64, living in the greater High Point region.

Over its 20-year history, Puttin’ on the Grits has grown both in scope and impact. What started at the Millis Education Center with a modest $10,000 raised in its inaugural year has blossomed into a significant community celebration, now held at St. Mary’s Family Life Center. In 2024, the event raised an impressive $110,000, and in recent years, participation has soared, drawing around 700 attendees annually.

Held on the first Saturday in December from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., Puttin’ on the Grits has become a cherished kickoff to High Point’s Holiday Stroll. The heart of the event is a festive buffet featuring signature grit dishes prepared by local restaurants and caterers—from traditional southern grits to crowd-pleasing specialties like shrimp and grits. The spread is rounded out with eggs, bacon, danishes, juice, and coffee, fostering a cozy, communal atmosphere during the holiday season.

The generosity of local sponsors and community members sustains the event. Sponsorship opportunities range from Friends of Grits to Executive Chef, with a Presenting Sponsor. Each year, the event honors an individual or organization that has demonstrated extraordinary service to CCHP, with honorees selected by the Grits committee and board based on staff nominations.

All proceeds directly support the Community Clinic of High Point, amplifying its mission to care for uninsured, underserved neighbors. The event has become a source of local pride, recognized by media outlets, and stands as a testament to the community’s spirit. Puttin’ on the Grits continues to make a meaningful difference—one hearty breakfast at a time.
